Ripple’s vision is to enable the world to move values the way it moves information today – a concept known as the Internet of Value (IoV). It’s a goal that is close to my heart. I immigrated to the United States from India almost 20 years ago and have personally experienced the challenges and costs involved in sending money home to loved ones. I’m very excited to be joining Ripple as VP of Engineering for RippleNet and working with my colleagues to make this vision a reality.
Today’s global payments infrastructure has more to do with the outdated postal system than this generation’s demand for instant, affordable cross-border payments. Coming from Braintree, a payment company too, I’ve seen firsthand the critical needs of industry customers – trust, speed, security, and quality technology.
These aspects distinguish Ripple in the industry. We are transforming the financial system from within by working with banks and financial institutions to understand their needs and customer requirements. Like turning on a tap, cross-border payments should be intuitive and easy to use. Unfortunately, this is not the case with millions of referrers around the world.
Reshaping the global payments infrastructure and improving the end customer experience through quality code has been my primary focus for the past six years – and remains my focus at Ripple. This commitment, combined with disciplined and high quality engineering, are the ingredients for scaling successful teams.
At the grassroots level, a significant part of building strong teams consists of hiring diverse members who know they are involved. Diversifying the pool of candidates in the interview process and ensuring that we create an inclusive culture are just some of the ways we can recruit and support people with different backgrounds and experiences. This further strengthens our team and strengthens the industry as a whole.
Ripple’s engineering team has set a high standard of engineering quality to ensure the trust of our 300+ customers and their customers worldwide. As businesses large and small alike move towards a new normal of remote working, that awareness is critical to our clients’ success and team empowerment. Leading agile, distributed engineering people at Braintree have shaped the way we have led our teams to ensure member involvement, reduce friction caused by misunderstandings, and instill empathy for employees in different time zones and schedules.
I bring these principles to my new role and what I have already seen in my first two months at Ripple. All Ripplers are considered stakeholders in the success of our business and our customers. It is never “not my problem”. Together we hold ourselves responsible and work to find solutions together – for me this is a really integrative culture that sets us apart from other companies in our environment.
By leveraging cutting edge technology with blockchain and digital asset technology, Ripple solves real problems that affect everyone, everywhere. If you are an engineer who wants to make a difference, we want to talk to you and find out what sets you apart.
Don’t hesitate to apply for the role of your dreams – even if you don’t meet all of the criteria. Check out Ripple’s careers page.
