Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently answered a number of community questions during an AMA session on Reddit. During the AMA, hosted by the Ethereum Foundation’s ETH 2.0 research team, Buterin said he expected noticeable network improvements sooner rather than later.
“TLDR: Merging happens faster, PoS happens faster, you get your hefty 100,000 TPS faster,” said Buterin on Wednesday as part of the foundation’s fifth AMA at ETH 2.0.
Ethereum’s network has been heavily congested in various places over the years, depending on different applications and the associated traffic. CryptoKitties slowed the Ethereum network to a crawl in 2017. More recently, decentralized financial activity has clogged Ethereum’s blockchain, resulting in high fees and above-average confirmation times.
Ethereum 2.0 offers a scaling solution that significantly increases the number of transactions per second. It also moves the blockchain to a different consensus algorithm known as proof-of-stake. Although the transition was associated with a number of delays, the team is currently aiming for a start date for ETH 2.0 Phase 0 on December 1st.
According to Buterin, roll-up-centered upgrades, a simplified merging and the parallelization of phases are among the most important revisions of the ETH 2.0 roadmap that will affect the final network results. “All of these changes are designed to reduce the time it takes eth2 to be useful to people,” said Buterin.
Scaling has been a heated debate in the crypto space in general, not just with Ethereum but with other assets like Bitcoin as well.
