A new crypto plugin enables WordPress publishers to receive advertising revenue straight into their Ether (ETH) wallets. This is evident from a plugin description dated December 10th that was posted on the WordPress official website.
The plug-in with the name “EthereumAds” enables content publishers to auction advertising space for ETH with the help of intelligent contracts. “After you have inserted our widget, your advertising space will automatically be auctioned off to the highest bidder every two weeks using our smart contract,” says the official description.
According to the EthereumAds website, the WordPress plugin plans to compete with Google AdSense so that publishers can earn ETH through banner advertising. EthereumAds explicitly promises to offer publishers lower commissions: “Google Adsense only pays you 68% of your ad revenue. We’ll pay you a whopping 90%. “
The new ad plugin applies to all types of content such as websites, blogs, billboards and is not limited to crypto-related content.
With EthereumAds intending to compete with major ad monetization platforms like Google AdSense, it remains to be seen how traditional ad platforms deal with their crypto rivals.
Google offers the world’s largest ad monetization platform and has had some problems with crypto in the past. In April 2020, Cointelegraph reported that Google AdSense was running fraudulent crypto ads and banning some legitimate crypto companies from using its service. Google Ads previously blacklisted keywords mentioning Ethereum, as reported in January 2019.
