The Dallas Mavericks have announced that they will accept payments in the form of Dogecoin
The professional NBA team Dallas Mavericks is the first merchant to accept Dogecoin thanks to the crypto service provider BitPay. Yesterday the payment processor announced that it is now supporting the meme Cryptocurrency Dogecoin. Other merchants using BitPay can also accept the crypto.
BitPay released a press release that said: “Mavs Fans for Life (MFFLs) can now purchase tickets and merchandise online with Dogecoin, making Mavs merchandise more accessible to MFFLs everywhere.”
On the same subject, the CEO of BitPay stated: “The Dallas Mavericks have been a long-time cryptocurrency enthusiast and are opening up new ways for the team to sell tickets and merchandise to their global MFFL fan base.”
This isn’t the first crypto that Dallas Maverick has adopted, as BitPay notes. For the past two years, Mark Cuban’s Western Conference team has been accepting bitcoin payments.
“… [Mavs] Use BitPay to process all cryptocurrency purchases including tickets and goods with all top cryptocurrencies like BTC, BCH, ETH, USDC, GUSD, PAX and BUSD and now DOGE. “
Popular TV personality and investor, Cuban also loves cryptocurrencies. In the last few months alone, he has conducted media rounds in which cryptos such as ether, bitcoin and even the conversation have been expanded to include the NFT collection as well as smart contracts. Cuban is a familiar face on the ABC network where he directs the business reality show Shark Tank.
The billionaire entrepreneur also commented on the decision, saying it was a fun thing to do.
“The Mavericks have decided to accept Dogecoin as payment for Mavs tickets […] because we can! Because we can, we decided to do it. We decided to do this because in business you sometimes have to do things that are fun, get involved and hopefully generate a lot of PR. So we’re going to take Dogecoin today, tomorrow, and possibly forever more. “
Just this week, Cubans announced that only a handful of parties had paid the NBA team in bitcoin in an interview with Decrypt. There are doubts whether any party is ready to pay in the meme crypto. Dogecoin is struggling to regain its February momentum and is currently hovering in the $ 0.05 area.
