According to the statement posted on their website, the club is working with Bitcoin Meester to implement the plans.
Bitcoin Meester is a broker that makes it easy to buy and sell various cryptocurrencies in the market. The exchange is based in the Netherlands and aims to be a fast and cheap platform for crypto transactions.
Bitcoin Meester has been in operation since 2017, and AZ Alkmaar said the two companies will work together until 2024. They also announced that they would finalize the deal between them in Bitcoin and the club will keep BTC on their balance sheet.
The statement also stated that the football club will begin its BTC payments as soon as possible. The company will also join sports franchises that use BTC to pay professional athletes.
Is there a special reason for this Bitcoin introduction?
According to the club’s commercial director Michael Koster, many people are very zealous and support Bitcoin.
As a result, the club decided to take it over for its payments. He also stressed that the crypto market is constantly expanding and many users are getting into it. The attractiveness of the industry has also led the football club to join the trend.

However, Koster mentioned that soccer companies are not all that familiar with the crypto industry. Because of this, they had to work with Bitcoin Meester, an established player, to help them do this.
There are many brokers on the market, but Bitcoin Meester is one of the few that operate under the license of the Dutch Central Bank. That means they are legally working in the country.
So far, authorities in the Netherlands have stumbled upon crypto regulations. On one occasion, a government official suggested a total ban on Bitcoin in the country.
Sponsorship offers on the rise
Lately there have been a lot of sponsorship deals between crypto companies and sports teams. The whole idea is to achieve brand awareness, patronage and business growth. Previously, before partnering with AZ Alkmaar, Crypto.com had also partnered with Formula 1.
Aside from these partnerships, many star athletes and American sports franchises had specifically endorsed crypto and bitcoin. Last month, Tom Brady signed a contract with FTX to become their ambassador for equity stakes in FTX.
