The cinema plans to accept Bitcoin and three other major cryptocurrencies for online tickets before the end of the year
Dogecoin is now accepted as a payment option for digital gift cards by leading cinema AMC, the company’s CEO announced.
According to a tweet published by Adam Aron on Wednesday morning, the film company accepts DOGE from its customers. AMC is working with the crypto payment processor BitPay on the project, allowing users to access eGift cards with their Dogecoin holdings.
AMC, a global entertainment powerhouse, will also accept other cryptocurrencies that CEO Adam Aron did not mention.
“Big news from Dogecoin fans! As we work on accepting online crypto payments, you can now purchase @ AMCTheatres digital gift cards (up to $ 200 per day) of Dogecoin and other cryptocurrencies using a BitPay wallet.” Aron tweeted.
Customers who wish to purchase gift cards with Dogecoin can do so on the AMC website or via a mobile app. The service will also be available in theaters, added the AMC boss.
Dogecoin and other cryptocurrency support for eGift cards follows an earlier announcement in which AMC said it was working to accept online crypto payments.
In August, the company announced it would accept Bitcoin (BTC) for tickets and concession payments. An update to that announcement came in mid-September, with Aron stating that the entertainment giant would be accepting Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash by the end of 2021.
The price of Dogecoin, which rose more than 13% on Wednesday morning, saw a slight decline after getting close to the $ 0.25 mark. DOGE is trading just below this resistance zone with an intraday gain of 3%. If it recovers, it could follow Shiba Inu, which is up more than 200% in the past seven days.
