American cinema giant AMC Theaters is steadily approaching its goal of accepting payments in cryptocurrency by the end of the year and is now introducing crypto purchases for electronic gift cards for the first time.
AMC customers can now buy digital gift cards with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC) directly via the AMC website, mobile app and cinemas, CEO Adam Aron announced on October 5th.
The new payment option was made possible by the large crypto payment processor BitPay, which allows consumers to purchase e-cards up to $ 200, noted Aron.
The CEO paid special attention to Dogecoin (DOGE) among the digital assets accepted for AMC e-card purchases. Aron indicated in September that AMC will add DOGE to the list of cryptocurrencies accepted for tickets by the end of 2021.
Aron conducted a survey of 140,000 people on Twitter and asked the community whether AMC should accept DOGE payments for tickets. “It is clear that you think AMC should accept Dogecoin. Now we have to figure out how to do it. Stay tuned, ”said Aron at the time.

As previously reported, Aron announced the company’s plans to accept bitcoin payments for movie tickets in August and roll out the new payment option by 2022. The film chain also plans to support four more cryptocurrencies: the aforementioned DOGE, Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH).
Earlier this year, the major Cineplex Group, the largest cinema operator in Thailand, launched a payment pilot that allows customers to buy tickets using cryptos.
